Beattie; and financial documents, including cashbooks, 1917-1941, construction account monthly statements, bills and payrolls, 1912-1913, trial balances, 1918-1926, and checkbooks, 1895-1912. Also includes raw material stock books, 1910-1913, 1925-1928, receiving books, 1927-1938, and vouchers, 1920-1944; records of sales accounts, 1910-1917, payroll books, 1919-1922, production records, 1933-1935, and yarn dyed and Spinning Dept. records, 1920, 1931-1932. Also contains newspaper articles, etc., on the history of the company. Collection includes photographs, blueprints, drawings, carpet samples and a company history on videotape.

Robert L. Beattie founded the Robert Beattie Co. in 1840 in New York City. It moved to Little Falls, N.J. in 1843. The company's name changed several times; it was called the Little Falls Carpet Mills, 1843-1871; Robert Beattie and Sons, 1871-1882; and the Beattie Manufacturing Co. from 1882. Nineteenth century textile directories list the company as making Brussels, tapestry, ingrain and velvet carpets and Smyrna rugs as well as druggets, plushes, robes and velours.
